Synopsis:
Ja-young is a flutist. When her father has a child out of wedlock, her mother regards sex as a sin out of anger towards him. Ja-young grows up under her mother’s exceedingly oppressive notions. Then by chance, Ja-young’s sexual urges are expressed in an abnormal fashion. Her mother is shocked by her daughter’s abnormal sexual tendencies. Ja-young’s boyfriend Jo-bin starts to detest her but he slowly learns of her situation and begins to understand her. On the other hand, Ja-young suffers much by jealousy at the hands of her half-sister Bo-young and Chun Hyung-seok who takes out his revenge on her. Ja-young ends up in the hospital. All of Ja-young’s problems stem from a single source. After Jo-bin learns of the reason behind her actions, he comes to deeply understands Ja-young.

Synopsis:

Synopsis:
Eun-Yi, a middle-aged divorcee, is hired as an upper class family housemaid. But soon enough, master of the house Hoon takes advantage of his social position by slipping into her sheets. Hoon’s visits become frequent and Byung-Sik, an old housemaid, reports the affair to Hae-Ra’s mother Mi-Hee, who plots to give Hae-Ra the control over her husband. Soon Eun-Yi miraculously becomes pregnant and wants to keep the baby. This is discovered by the family and she’s forced to have an abortion by Mi-Hee despite Eun-Yi’s plea to let her keep the baby and leave the house. Mi-Hee’s plot backfires when Hoon scrutinizes her for terminating his child, even if that child is conceived illegitimately. Her forced abortion turns Eun-Yi’s mental condition for the worst and she decides to take the matter into her own hands.

Synopsis:
The events that precede and follow, for each of those present in turn, when a young woman is asked for verification of her identity one time too many, in this case when presenting a check at a convenience store. Despite the repetition of the central scene the personal stories and consequences are interestingly varied and unpredictable. The problem for the central character is that her country allows her no usable identity following her change of sex. This was true for the lead actress, South Korea’s most famed woman of transsexual history, Ha Ri-su, but that is about as far as the plot bears any resemblance to her actual life. Since the film was released the actress became, by a landmark court case, the first in her country to to be allowed proper recognition and papers. There are of course many other countries which still impose the same difficulties on similar young women. Probably the best fictional portrayal yet of a woman of transsexual history, anywhere.
